The Beach House →

A modern build with a minimalist aesthetic. Inspired by nature.

The Beach House is a home located in West Saint John, overlooking the Bay of Fundy. I started working on this project full time in November of 2023. I was originally brought in to do the brick tile floors in the primary bathroom and guest bath, which cover a total of 300 sqft. I continued with the natural stone flooring in the powder room and the tile floor in the entryway.

During this build, I had the opportunity to work with materials that I’ve never used before. We used Tadelakt plaster as the waterproof material in the guest bath and primary walk in shower. I also became very familiar with limewash paint. All of the walls and ceilings are painted in limewash and this was applied with a brush technique rather than a roller. In the powder room, we wanted to keep the limewash look but with a much darker gray colour. We were able to replicated this texture using two tones of paint mixed with drywall compound to achieve the same matte finish.

There are many unique details in this home. Its sleek aesthetic is emphasised by curved accents paired with the absence of trim. All of the doorways are arched with pocket doors. Arches can be found throughout to highlight focal points. There is a curved staircase and a custom curved kitchen island.

Below are some photos of work in progress.
